Nigeria in Economic Freefall: Great Lamentations, Wrong Prescription and the Haunting Question of What Changed

Listening to the lamentations of this speaker in the reel above as he recalled the glorious days of Nigeria’s Economy in the 1980s when the Nigerian Naira stood tall above the United States Dollar, and when Nigeria Produced most of what it consumed, AND to his prescription of Electing better leaders, the Question that comes to mind is: WHY don’t we first find out what went wrong with Nigeria’s Economic Production Base before prescribing the pathway to Redemption?

It is most astonishing that we refuse to understand that what changed in Nigeria was Nigeria’s sudden departure from the Federal Constitutional Foundation upon which the Flourishing Economy of Nigeria was built in the over two decades leading to the 1980s.

That departure which was codified in 1979 into a Unitary Constitutional Framework, began to reverse the rapid economic progress the Federal Nigerian Union (with robust Regional Autonomy), witnessed from the 1950s.

If we do not acknowledge and work with this truth, we may continue, to our collective peril, in the rigmarole of building Nigeria and its Economy on the Destructive, Death-Dispensing and Anti-Development Unitary Constitution, imposed as Victory Charter from the Genocidal War of 1967-1970 to permanently EXCLUDE and SUBJUGATE the Igbo from the Nigerian Project.

Nigeria is now fractured into 36 lame States with an over-bloated “Federal Government”, and a 68-Item Federal Exclusive Legislative List that confiscates Key Economic Assets into the hands of a rapacious Federal Government, paralyzing the Economic Production that is now being recounted in this lamentation video.

We must note that the backbone of that impressive Economic Production and industrial infrastructure was the Regional-Autonomy feature of the defunct Federation of Nigeria that died 1966-1967.

The remedy to Nigeria’s disastrous Decline is to get back to, rectify and reset the damaged Constitutional Foundation of Nigeria. An immediate Transitioning Process to rework Nigeria’s damaged Constitutional basis is the pathway to redemption for Nigeria, it is to begin the said Transitioning now in 2026. Not Elections that will throw up leaders who MUST swear to, and govern by that atrocious Unitary Constitution.

Elections-2027 mandated by the same Unitary Constitution of Nigeria-1999 will only reinforce the embarrassing failures and dysfunctional disaster Nigeria has become to itself and Nigerians.

We will be proceeding in gross-misdiagnosis, with catastrophic prognosis if we decide to plunge into ELECTIONS in 2027 under the Unitary Constitution of Nigeria-1999 instead of initiating an immediate TRANSITIONING Process for Wholesale Constitutional Reconstruction that will restore the Productive Energies of Nigeria currently disabled by Nigeria’s Unitary Constitution.

In terms of main-cause, as it is for the Economic Woes of Nigeria, so is it for the Security Nightmares Nigeria is now caught in. The Imposed, Fraudulent Unitary Constitution of Nigeria is 100% responsible for Nigeria’s current parlous situation, including the serial electoral malfeasances that render impossible, the emergence of any good leaders in governance as we saw in the 2023 Presidential Election where the Electoral Mandate of Peter Obi was hijacked in broad daylight and handed to the Candidate who will conduct the 2027 Presidential Election, with INEC and Judiciary under his thumb.

Under the Fraudulent Unitary Constitution of Nigeria, the “We” repeatedly referred to in the Lamentation Video effectively excludes the Igbo who are locked down as the Dot-In-Circle by the 1967 Alliance of the rest of Nigeria, otherwise how do we explain the conspicuous absence of the Industries of M I Okpara’s Eastern Region that should have been exponentially improved and expanded by the Technological Breakthroughs of Biafra, from the list of the Manufacturing Companies of the 1980s? The answer to this Question holds the key to knowing why Nigeria is where it is now in the Production Index.

Another futile round of National Elections in 2027 under the 1999 Constitution will only push the bleeding Unitary Nigeria over the cliff.
