What Is The Way Out Of The Mess Unitary Nigeria Has Become: Is It Leadership Change Via Election Or Constitutional Reset Via Transitioning?

Tony Nnadi, NINAS

24 August 2025

As Nigeria sinks deeper into the quagmire of Unitarism amidst Political Noise, Commotion, Alignments and Desperation, in the build-up to the already doomed Electoral Voyage of 2027, many stakeholders have observed with concern that the arrowheads of the so-called Opposition Coalition that seeks to push out the APC and Tinubu in 2027 are the same Political Merchants who brought Nigeria to where it currently is but who, being aggrieved and dislodged from their erstwhile political camps, have assembled to oust the ruling Party, with no discernible alternative plan that can rescue Nigerians from the stranglehold of Tinubu state-capture or Nigeria from the disasters of a Unitary Constitution.

In one such expression of concern (link below refers), the commentator, who had supported Candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 Presidential Election posited that the Opposition Political Parties and the Opposition Coalition who can hardly be distinguished from the ruling Party, must now be asked what they are bringing forward, that will be significantly different from what the ruling party is doing.

In response to those concerns being expressed, Tony Nnadi of NINAS wrote as follows:

Valid Question to ask Opposition Political Parties and Coalition is: “What are you offering, different from what Tinubu and APC are already dishing out to us?”

Since all Political Parties In Nigeria subscribe to, and MUST govern by the Unitary Constitution that is responsible for the multidimensional woes, failures and dysfunctions of Nigeria, is it not self-evident to us (Nigerians) that the ALTERNATIVE we must now demand from competing Political Camps is one that will Rescue us from the Death-Dispensing 1999 Constitution?

Does that imperative of a Real Alternative not bring us to the urgent need to determine:

(1) WHETHER we should be heading to another round of National ELECTIONS in 2027 to choose one or the other of the Political Parties that will nevertheless govern with the same 1999 Constitution.

– OR –

(2) We should join the NINAS push for an immediate Time-Bound TRANSITIONING Process in place of Elections, so that we can rework the damaged Constitutional Basis of Nigeria.

Those who are still looking towards Electoral Reforms that will be executed by Mandate Snatchers as way to go, are simply dragging us towards two possible outcomes, namely CHAOS enroute 2027 or the unchallenged coronation of Tinubu for another four-year term as President from 2027 after we might have been treated to another Electoral Charade far worse than 2023; and where with the anger of the populace over the rigging of 2023 Elections still boiling, with the Judiciary totally discredited, and the undisguised desperate determination of the APC to hold on to their undeserved interregnum, much violence is guaranteed from all sides.

Q-3 to Q-4 of 2025 is the time to mobilize those who genuinely desire change in Nigeria to Reject the Doomed Electoral Voyage to 2027 as a mark of their Rejection of the 1999 Constitution, by Demanding an immediate Transitioning Process for the Constitutional Reconstruction of Nigeria in place of another round of futile Elections that can only worsen the already dire situation of Nigeria.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

As long as the neocolonial and fraudulent 1999 Constitution remains in operation, what good governance and change can any returning, or new leadership give to Nigerians? Nigerians really need to think through that question so as to carry out the actions that will bring them benefits.

Nigerians have now gone to SEVEN cycles of National Elections since 1999. Each time the life of the imposed 1999 Constitution, source of miseries and enabler of the Fulani Conquest Agenda was renewed for four more years. After each National Election, life worsened for Nigerians because the dysfunctional constitutional arrangement codified by the 1999 Constitution was still there. Clearly, Nigeria’s core problem is STRUCTURAL due to that 1999 Constitution, and not due to leadership style. Bad leadership will always happen because whether the leader is a good or bad man, or whether he was voted for or rigged himself into being President, it is the neocolonial and handicapping provisions of the 1999 Constitution that will be imposed on Nigerians, locking them down, and putting them in mortal dangers.

THE FIVE QUESTIONS TO INTERROGATE ANY PROPOSAL TO FIX NIGERIA
The NINAS Strategy journey is teaching several things that were deliberately omitted from state schools eg History and Problem-Solving Skills.

We have over the years heard the NINAS Spokesman inform us how NINAS came to its 5-Point Proposition, saying it was by Diagnosing the problem of Nigeria, then coming up with a correct Prescription, then devising a potent Treatment Plan. NINAS applied a Root-Cause Analysis (RCA). Those who have had the discipline to acquaint themselves with the NINAS material have no problem understanding the rationale and strategy. RCA can be applied to any kind of problem, no matter how complex it may be.

AI Overview definition:
“Root-Cause Analysis (RCA) is a problem-solving method used to identify the underlying reasons for a problem or failure, rather than just addressing the immediate symptoms. It aims to prevent the issue from recurring by finding and fixing the core cause. RCA is a structured approach that involves investigating the problem, identifying contributing factors, and developing corrective actions.”

Using the NINAS Proposition as an example, here are Five Questions that anyone or any group needs to be asked regarding their proposal, and they MUST answer them ALL or we will know that they are either ignorant or dishonest, and Nigerians should dismiss them.

Q1: WHAT is the Problem?
Answer: Nigeria’s core problem is its unitary constitutional arrangement codified by the imposed 1999 Constitution.

Q2: WHAT is the Solution?
Answer: Decommission of the entire 1999 Constitution AND Reconstruction of a fresh Constitutional Order.

Q3: HOW and WHEN do we deal with the Prevailing and Obstructing 1999 Constitution?
Answer: We Take Down the 1999 Constitution by Rejecting and Repudiating it (Constitutional Force Majeure) and Enforce that Rejection by Suspending further National Elections (ie in 2027) under that Constitution, so that the Reconstruction can get underway, with no more delays. The work of Union Reconstruction has been lingering unresolved since Aburi 1967 was unilaterally cancelled by Gowon.

Q4: HOW and WHO (what class of people) will solve this problem by doing the work?
Answer: During a time-bound period of Transitioning the 3 false claims in the Preamble of the 1999 Constitution will be resolved by Negotiations and by Self-Determination Referendums. It is the Constituent Peoples of Nigeria to whom Sovereignty belongs, who will do this work, (ie the indigenous Ethnic Nations).

Q5: WHAT is the Time Frame start to finish?
Answer: It is an immediate start, so Transitioning can begin in 2025. Since most of the work has already been done over the past 25 years, it will take much less than the four years that South Africa used in Transitioning to correct their Apartheid constitutional order. (It could be done in 12 to 18 Months)
