Until We Discuss Nigeria And Agree On The Basics, We Have No Union: Rejoinder To Tukur Buratai.

Tony Nnadi, NINAS

24 August 2025

Nigeria’s Former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, recently suggested that the Terror currently ravaging Nigeria (mostly in the Northern parts), should be treated as a National Emergency for which the Country must summon all citizens to a decisive action and possibly a lockdown. He went on to cite the examples of the Covid-19 Pandemic National Response and the Maiduguri Floods to which Nigerians from all parts rallied forth concrete support and help. The video clip here:

On the surface, these suggestions by Buratai would look like the thoughts of a concerned Statesman, but a closer look would raise a few pungent questions, including:

(1) Which Nigeria is Buratai talking about, between the Defunct Federation of Nigeria that died since 1967 or the Toxic Unitary Nigeria (One-Nigeria), imposed in consequence of Victory in the 1967-1970 War with its Breakaway Eastern Region (Biafra), and which has been masquerading illicitly as “the Federation of Nigeria”?

(2) Will Buratai claim not to know that the Nigeria presided over by his former principal, Muhammadu Buhari, in which he, Buratai was Chief of Army Staff, was very badly divided and so thoroughly disputed that a Constitutional Force Majeure and Sovereignty Dispute was declared in December 2020 by aggrieved Constituent Components of Nigeria who seek the wholesale Constitutional Reconstruction of Nigeria to EITHER make Nigeria the Collective Project of the disparate Peoples of Nigeria by Negotiation OR in default, the Orderly Dissolution of the Distressed Nigerian Union?.

When an individual like Tukur Buratai comes to the public space to make prescriptions predicated on the assumption that he was speaking to fellow Countrymen and Compatriots whose sense of patriotism should summon to common National Causes, he comes across as Dishonest, Delusional or Arrogantly Ignorant.

Unfortunately for characters like Buratai, the Unitary Nigeria we have now is a Union-At-Gunpoint that is dead in the hearts of an overwhelming majority of those we glibly call “Nigerians” and so cannot rally its peoples to a common cause in the manner being suggested by Buratai.

Here is the short video clip: Nigeria Is Union-At-Gunpoint – Prof Anthony Akinwale

That Unitary Nigeria that chose to construct itself on a Demonic Constitutional Foundation of Falsehood, Wickedness, Greed and Hatred and which confiscates the Sovereignty of the Constituent Peoples, operating as a Monster that feeds on the Blood of its captives who we obdurately call “Nigerians”, cannot summon the Patriotism of those captives to drive any common cause on behalf of Nigeria.

Let Tukur Buratai place a map of Nigeria on the table and cast his mind back to the Composition of Governance and Security Arrangements during the Buhari Presidency.

Let him do the same for the Tinubu Presidency.

He will see the Nepotism that makes Patriotism impossible;

He will see that the one thing common to the two eras is the Completely encircled Dot-In-Circle silhouetted by his two Maps.

He will see the reason behind the multiple grievances across Nigeria for which reason many sections are vigorously flying the flags of their Ethnic Nations since they do not see, believe in, or relate with Unitary Nigeria as “their Nation”, despite the noisy pretenses of Government.

Buratai’s  Master-Servant Unitary Nigeria of Conquest, Subjugation Exclusion and Forced Cohabitation is not OUR UNION and will not become our Union until WE THE PEOPLES of Nigeria, find the courage and honesty to tell ourselves the Truth that we cannot continue to build on a Constitutional Foundation of Falsehood, Force and Violence.

It does not matter how long we mocked ourselves with a National Anthem themed “ARISE O COMPATRIOTS”.

It does not matter that those who continue to make a just and equitable Nigeria impossible have now dragged us back to the long-discarded National Anthem themed “NIGERIA, WE HAIL THEE” in which we lied collectively and shamelessly to ourselves that “Though Tribe And Tongue May Differ, In Brotherhood We Stand” having handed a flag drenched in innocent blood to a younger generation, whether from the killing-fields of Biafra or the Toll-Gate Plaza of EndSARS Protests even as we ridiculed ourselves with the claim of handing down “A Banner-Without-Stain” to the Younger Generation.

Let Tukur Buratai be told that Tony Nnadi of NINAS (the Alliance and Voice of Nigeria’s Indigenous Peoples), said that:

We Either Discuss the Nigerian Union immediately, Or We Disperse Forthwith from the Failed Lugardian Experiment of 1914 now held together by Sheer Force of Arms, the Fraudulent 1999 Constitution, and many choreographed Lies, and glued by the Monumental Corruption that Unites Nigeria’s Political Elites.
