The Finnish Appeal Court Judgment On Simon Ekpa Is An Indictment On Both The “Biafra Agitation” For Terrorizing The Igbo-East And The Nigerian State, For Its Aggression On The Igbo-East

By an October 15, 2026 Judgement on an appeal by Terror-Convict Simon Ekpa, and a cross-appeal by the prosecution, a Finnish Appeal Court Upheld the Terrorism Conviction of Simon Ekpa but reduced the 6-Year Prison Sentence by the Trial Court to 4 Years.

Simon Ekpa had approached the Appeal Court to overturn his Terror Conviction and set him free, while the Prosecution had sought a harsher sentence than the 6 Years imposed by the Trial Court for the Terror Conviction of Ekpa.

By the reasons offered for its two-pronged verdict, it was clear that the Finnish Appeal Court sought to strike some sort of balance BETWEEN:

Decades of Nigeria’s aggression against its breakaway Eastern Region that had seceded briefly as Republic of Biafra between 1967-1970 but forced by a War waged by an alliance of the rest of Nigeria, back into the Nigerian Union:

AND

the Terror tactics being deployed, guerrilla-style, by gangs and groups in the Igbo-East (South-East) operating under the loose description of “Biafra Restoration”, and led by persons who live mostly in the UK, Europe and the US including Simon Ekpa who resides in Finland.

The Judgement of the Finnish Appeal Court is an indictment of both Nigeria, for its decades of what seems an unending aggression on its Eastern Region, particularly Igboland, AND the Biafra Agitation groups particularly the Eastern Security Network (ESN) of IPOB and its many associated and splinter groups operating as Unknown Gunmen for the terror tactics, criminality and the bloodletting methods it deploys in its unilateral actions in the undertaking it tagged “Biafra Restoration” being fraudulently pursued primarily for money-making, but using the genuine Constitutional and Political grievances of the Igbo-East as cover.

This dual-indictment by the Finnish Appeal Court aligns strikingly with the June 8, 2021 Cease-and-Desist broadcast-order issued by NINAS at the peak of the bloody crossfires between operatives of Nigerian Security Forces and armed footsoldiers of the “Biafra Agitation” groups, particularly the Eastern Security Network (ESN) and its many associated and splinter groups operating as Unknown Gunmen.

That NINAS Cease-And-Desist broadcast-order was issued about two weeks before the apprehension of IPOB-ESN leader Nnamdi Kanu in Kenya.

This Finnish Appeal Court Judgment also offers both Nigeria and the “Biafra” collective a fresh opportunity to review their respective wrong approaches to resolving the deep Constitutional and Political Grievances arising from the Nigeria-Biafra War of 1967-1970, particularly the Unitary Constitution imposed as Victory Charter from that War, to permanently EXCLUDE and SUBJUGATE the Igbo-East in Nigeria in a phenomenon now being ridiculed as “Dot-In-Circle” by members of the aforementioned 1967 Alliance.

The Propositions of the NINAS Constitutional Force Majeure Proclamation of December 16, 2020 offers the Nigerian State, the Agitation Groups and all Stakeholders, the most potent, most comprehensive and most orderly framework and mechanism for resolving Nigeria’s long-standing Disputations around the Union Constitutional Arrangements.

Responding to a comment about the Finnish Court’s observation on Simon Ekpa’s Appeal that the situation in Eastern Nigeria is Warlike and therefore justifies the violent actions of Simon Ekpa and removes the tag of terror from those actions. Tony Nnadi of NINAS wrote as follows:

  • First is to note that the Finnish Court, whilst describing the situation in Eastern Nigeria as Warlike, made a determination that the situation does not approximate to Civil War in a manner that would have availed Ekpa the defence of Self-Defense which he was trying to advance in justification of the acts of terror for which he was tried and convicted; therefore the Appeal Court upheld Ekpa’s conviction for Terrorism.
  • Next is, for those who argue that Simon Ekpa and the rest of the “Biafra” groups are engaged in a War with the Nigerian State and therefore should not be accused of carrying out terrorism, the Question is who commissioned Simon Ekpa and Nnamdi Kanu to levy war on the Nigerian State from the safety and comfort of foreign lands? Using irrational methods that plunged Igboland into bloodbath, both from the ESN/UGM/Autopilot killer-gangs they deployed AND from the Nigerian Security Forces that had to move into Igboland in the name of restoring law and order, but which essentially continued the Genocide that was launched since 1966-1967 against the Igbo by an Alliance of the rest of Nigeria.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION

With the lie (continuing) to demonize the Igbo that the January 1966 coup was an “Igbo coup”, and the horrific pogroms against Igbo and other Easterners of the era, and the unilateral unjustifiable abandoning of the Aburi Accord, followed by the genocidal Biafra war, and the deliberate exclusion of the East from economic opportunity to create systems of inequality, the fictitious democracy called Nigeria creates an environment that allows unscrupulous criminals to take advantage of Igbo in the false claim of “Biafra Restoration”. The Negative Public Perception Of The Terror Trial Of Nnamdi Kanu Is More About Decades Of Nigeria’s Deficit Of Honour In Its Dealings With The Igbo East Than The Innocence Or Guilt Of The Accused. Tony Nnadi, LNC-NINAS, 11 June 2025
