The Unitary Constitution Of Nigeria Erected On A Foundation Of Injustice And Violence Makes Unity, Peace And Progress Impossible For Nigeria: A Rejoinder To President Jonathan’s Admonition

Admonishing Nigerian Politicians and their supporters as they mobilize towards Elections in 2027, during a courtesy visit by Candidate Peter Obi, Nigeria’s Former President, Goodluck Jonathan lamented that Nigeria’s Development and Progress have over the years been impeded and debilitated by the absence of Unity and that in the absence of Unity, Progress will continue to elude Nigeria.

Tony Nnadi, on behalf of NINAS, posits that the Roadblock to the UNITY of Nigeria is the Unitary Constitution of Nigeria which is constructed on the foundation of INJUSTICE, which makes PEACE and PROGRESS impossible, eroding the FAITH of Nigerians in Nigeria; that Elections under that same Constitution will only worsen the situation; and that the initiation of an immediate Transitioning Process for the Constitutional Reconstruction of Nigeria is the Pathway to Redemption otherwise Nigeria could default into disorderly dissolution or violent disintegration.

For the sake of clarity, take a close look at the picture below to see the National Motto of Nigeria inscribed in the gold ribbon at the base of Nigeria’s Coat of Arms which reads: “UNITY & FAITH, PEACE & PROGRESS”.

  • Can we now see why Nigeria’s Union motto of Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress has been an embarrassing self-mockery and a hopeless aberration?
  • Are we surprised that PEACE and PROGRESS have eluded the Nigeria that was conceived in greed, born in deceit and nurtured in violence at inception; currently erected on the rickety Constitutional foundation of INJUSTICE that makes UNITY and FAITH utterly Impossible?
  • Has Nigeria not arrived at the juncture where it should be past debate that the principal reason for the Multidimensional Failures and Dysfunctions of Nigeria is the anomalous Fraudulent Constitutional Foundation upon which Nigeria is erected and its Democracy and Economy are being built?
  • Is it not now obvious to all that the remedy to the Distressed Federation of Nigeria lies in the Constitutional Reconstruction of Nigeria AND not in another round of Elections in 2027 mandated by the same ruinous 1999 Unitary Constitution?

SURVEYING THE DOOMED ROAD TO 2027 AND THE POSSIBLE OUTCOMES

  • It would be recalled that as the clamour for the Constitutional Reconstruction of Nigeria grew louder in the aftermath of the Controversial 2023 Presidential Elections, a Delegation of the Chief Emeka Anyaoku-led group, “The Patriots” took this Countrywide demand of the Peoples of Nigeria to Aso Rock Villa to request President Tinubu to initiate necessary action AND that Tinubu in declining their request, told them that his priority was to fix the Economy of Nigeria before looking into the issue of Union Restructuring. Tinubu is now on the ballot for 2027 even as the Economy of Nigeria remains in shambles while the Security situation of Nigeria remains an absolute Nightmare.
  • It would be recalled also that beyond empty campaign rhetorics and gimmickry which occasionally mouths “Restructuring”, Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has remained stoutly on the side of cosmetic changes via Constitutional “Amendment” in opposition to the Fundamental Constitutional Reconstruction urgently required to fix Nigeria. Now he is on the ballot for the 2027 Presidential Election as ADC Candidate under the Death-Dispensing Unitary Constitution-1999.
  • Unfortunately, Candidate Peter Obi who is widely perceived by young people as being remarkably different from Candidates Tinubu and Atiku, especially on the “Corruption Credentials”, had declared at the start of his Presidential Bid in 2022 that “Nigeria is not where it is because of Constitution”.

As it turned out, it was that Constitution through INEC and the Judiciary that swallowed his Mandate from the 2023 Presidential Election. Now he is on the ballot for 2027 Presidential Election on the ticket of the NDC, under that same Constitution and all its institutions particularly INEC and the Judiciary.

With that Unitary Constitution still in place and with all that the ruling Party, APC, has done in open connivance with INEC and the Courts, we can see that the Presidential Election of 2027 which is already compromised beyond redemption, will be worse than that of 2023, and will most likely end in widespread violence, all because of the Over-centralization of Powers by that Constitution.

Worse still is the fact that all Political Parties in Nigeria along with their Presidential Candidates, subscribe to the Unitary Constitution of Nigeria and MUST Swear to, and Govern by that Constitution, so there is no outcome from the 2027 Presidential Election that will bring about the Constitutional Reconstruction that the Nigeria Union urgently requires to pull back from the Verge of Disaster.

It is now up to the Peoples of Nigeria, as the would-be victims of the 2027 Elections to choose BETWEEN plunging ahead with the doomed Electoral Voyage of 2027 to their damnation OR to embrace the NINAS Transitioning Proposition for Union Reconstruction as the most potent pathway to their redemption.
