Every time we use the terms “WE” and “OUR” in referring to Nigeria and Nigerians, the question that jumps out immediately is: “What is Nigeria?”
Many may not understand the IMPORTANCE of that question, but until we have asked and answered this question to the fair satisfaction of those we describe as Nigerians, we will be deceiving ourselves to imagine that there is any subject of common challenge or common aspiration that WE can approach as OUR collective challenge or aspiration.
That was the Question that Chief Obafemi Awolowo tried to answer when he declared that Nigeria was a Mere Geographical Expression. That was the Question that prompted Alhaji Ahmadu Bello to dismiss Nigeria as the Mistake of 1914.
That is the Question that has for decades been driving the Agitation for Grand Union Renegotiation and Reconfiguration, loosely referred to as Restructuring.
That is the Question driving the various Self-Determination Agitations.
That is the Question answered falsely by the Preamble to the 1999 Constitution when it proclaimed that “WE THE PEOPLE of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Having Firmly and Solemnly Resolved to Live In Unity as One Indivisible and Indissoluble Nation, DO HEREBY Make, Enact and Give to ourselves the following Constitution.”
The NINAS Constitutional Force Majeure Proclamation of December 16, 2020, is the most Comprehensive articulation of that Question in a manner that sets the table for an All-Inclusive engagement of that Question and the resolution of the issues driving the Distressed and Disputed Union of Nigeria to a Disorderly Disintegration.
Here is the link to the Notice Of Constitutional Force Majeure, published in The Guardian Nigeria newspaper, titled, Notice of Constitutional Grievances, declaration of Constitutional Force Majeure and demand for Transitioning Process for an Orderly Reconfiguration of the Constitutional Basis of the Federation of Nigeria.
