The bogus and unsigned proposal flying around the internet about Rewriting Nigeria, Renaming Nigeria, and Restructuring of Nigeria by Tinubu is the usual flying of kites and self-deceit intended to hoodwink the public and the International Stakeholders especially the US.
It strikingly resembles the hokum that Akin Fapohunda and his associates including the so-called “Patriots” have been parading around as Draft for Reworking the Federation (Constitution) but it is a far cry from what the situation requires because one would then ask: WHO DISCUSSED THESE CHANGES? And WHERE ARE THE CONSTITUENT PEOPLES OF NIGERIA FOR WHOM THE CHANGES ARE BEING PROPOSED?
It is nothing to really and properly address the well-known, deep-seated problems of Nigeria which NINAS had years ago clearly articulated by its Constitutional Force Majeure, declared December 16, 2020. Therefore, anything short of a formal announcement expressly committing to the complete Decommissioning of the Unitary Constitution of Nigeria AND the Suspension of preparations for the 2027 National Elections to initiate an immediate Transitioning Process to allow the Constituent Peoples of Nigeria to Renegotiate and Reconfigure the Union Constitution will be a non-starter. That is where this internet Draft falls in.
The States originally imposed by fiat and as currently configured cannot be the Federating Units, neither does the Government and the National Assembly have the Constituent Powers to Make a Federating Constitution for the Union without discussions and agreement amongst the Constituent Peoples of Nigeria on:
(1) Whether they wish to Federate and on
(2) the Terms of Federating.
Exactly HOW and WHEN would the changes they are hoisting up in the Bogus Proposals take place if the National Elections of 2027 mandated by the 1999 Constitution remain on the cards? Will current President, Governors, Senators, Representatives, National and State Assemblies and other governance institutions framed by the Unitary Constitutional Structure of Nigeria evaporate and automatically coalesce into adjusted entities the morning after the paperwork is done on May 29, 2026 according to that Proposal?
How would the renaming of Nigeria as “United States of Nigeria” change anything in the fundamental constitutional anomalies that have brought Unitary Nigeria to the current ruins? Did the recent change of Nigeria’s National Anthem by the Tinubu Government bring about Unity and Patriotism?
What they are doing is like trying to rebuild a house that has foundational flaws from the roof! Neither can the shallow palliatives they are throwing about in that Bogus Draft address the current situation of Nigeria which is now an emergency on all sides, particularly Security and Economic.
As we had done a number of times in the past, NINAS will dismiss the nonsense they are currently bandying about.
